You must think we’re crazy! Tips on how to relax? What? Is it really that hard to relax? Maybe it’s just us, but when we sat back and thought about it, it kind of is. Between work, family, social life, and technology, we can’t remember the last time where we really just cleared out minds and chilled out. And we aren’t talking about sitting back and watching Netflix all day. When we talk about relaxing, we mean coming out soothed, refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to tackle what’s about to come our way. Check out these five tips on how to truly relax.
Stop the Screen Time
This might seem like a given, but give yourself time every day where you don’t access to screens like your phone, television, and laptop. Between the glaring light, emails, and social media updates, your mind cannot actually turn off if you keep scrolling away. A break from screen time will help your eyes, mood, and help wind down your brain.
Lavender
Lavender helps calm and relax the body. Not only that, but it is supposed to help with better sleep as well. If you are looking for a soothing way to drift off to sleep and get a good night’s rest, we highly recommend Lush’s Sleepy lotion ($9.95), which has scents of lavender and tonka. In addition to getting Zs, the lotion will moisturize your skin beautifully. Lush also has a Twilight spray ($29.95), Twilight bath bomb ($6.95), and Sleepy shower gel ($9.95) that will help all of your stresses drift away.
Massage
Whether you want to go to a spa or use at at-home massager, it doesn’t matter because both are great options to de-stress. We even mentioned this in our post on 5 Easy Things to do to Make Your Day a Bit Healthier and recommended the Zyllion Shiatsu Back and Neck Massager ($39.95). A foot massager like this Nektek one with heat ($59.99) would feel heavenly as well.
Meditate and Breathe
Laugh or scoff if you must, but be sure to try it if you haven’t! Meditating might be weird to some people, but we find that when combined with breathing, it gives you something to inadvertently focus on to help with the process. Try sitting in a dark room with your eye closed and just focus on taking deep breaths. In…and out. In…and out. Try it for five minutes one day. Ten another day. And then keep upping the time till you get to where you want to be. A sleep mask like this silk one ($12.90) can help you fight the urge from opening your eyes.
