Hungry, but not that hungry? Or maybe you’ve put on some quarantine weight and are looking for some healthy snack alternatives to the boxed brownies you’ve been baking every week? Check out some of our favorite snack ideas that are tasty and packed with nutrition. And we have nothing against hummus. We love hummus. We’re just trying to expand out of the hummus box when it comes to healthy snack ideas.
Full-Fat Greek Yogurt and Fruit Preserves
Snack on some Greek yogurt mixed with fruit preserves for something that’s delicious and will provide you with protein and probiotics. We prefer using full-fat Greek yogurt for this snack because it’s flavorful and very satisfying. Photo by Kelsey Curtis on Unsplash
Watermelon-Raspberry Smoothie
One of our favorite smoothies to drink, simply blend together fresh watermelon, frozen raspberries, and fresh lime for something refreshing and bursting with flavor. Cilantro lovers will be happy to know that cilantro will also taste fantastic blended in. Photo by Ashley Winkler on Unsplash
Nut Butter and Honey Rolls
Choose your favorite nut butter or sun butter and spread it onto a wrap. Drizzle with honey (we love a good orange blossom honey) and then roll it up. Once rolled up, slice at every half-inch for a fantastic, bite-sized treat. Photo by Roberta Sorge on Unsplash
Kale Chips
These are so expensive when you buy them at the supermarket, which is why we prefer to make our own. Wash and dry fresh kale, and then remove the leaves from the ribs. Tear into pieces and toss with a little bit of olive oil. Spread it onto a baking sheet and bake for 12 minutes at 375 degrees. If it’s not crisp, bake for longer. Sprinkle some salt on top once you pull it out of the oven. Photo by Laura Johnston on Unsplash
Crackers and Smoked Oysters
Surprisingly, this is one of our favorite combinations when we want a boost of protein and something that tastes meaty. All you need is a tin of canned, smoked oysters. Place one oyster on a cracker (we love using saltines here) and pop the whole thing into your mouth.
Seasoned Fruit
Our mouths are watering just thinking about this. We love adding a bit of salt to our pineapple when we want a sweet and salty combo. And if you don’t have Tajin stocked in your spice rack, you are seriously missing out. Made with chili, lime, and salt, Tajin is fantastic on both pineapple and mango.
Non-Sugary Cereal
Cereal is great for any time of day. We highly suggest picking a non-sugary one because some cereals are packed with sugar, which isn’t great, especially if you are mindlessly pouring any amount into a bowl. And if you’re on a non-dairy kick, we love Oatly brand oat milks (not sponsored, we just really do love Oatly). Photo by Nyana Stoica on Unsplash
Bone Broth
If you don’t feel like eating something, but you’re craving something, reach for some warm bone broth. The taste and warmth will be comforting, and it has wonderful flavor as well. Those who don’t want to make their own will be happy to know that great bone broth can easily be shipped to your home.
