Healthier Comfort Food Recipes

We love eating rich and indulgent foods here and there, but sometimes, we want to lighten things up a bit. Do you ever feel that way too? Whether it’s because you want to get a bit healthier or because you just feel like eating something less heavy, there are lots of different subs you can make to classic comfort food recipes that will make your heart, health, and waistline happier.

Spaghetti and Meatballs

In place of spaghetti noodles, use shirataki noodles. They’re made from konjac yams. A serving of these noodles contain just 10 calories. How amazing is that?

Mac and Cheese

To the cheese mixture, you can add pureed items like cauliflower or butternut squash to get in some servings of vegetables. Kids won’t even notice the difference as the color will remain the same. Tasty has a recipe for it right here.

You will feel guilt-free loading up on cheese and toppings when you swap a typical pizza crust for a cauliflower one. The end result is tasty and still very satisfying. If you are a fan of thin-crust pizzas, then you will be pleased with this swap.

Chocolate Cake

Zucchini adds fabulous moisture without infringing on the original taste of the recipe if you get the right balance. Is your mouth watering just looking at this Sally’s Baking Addiction Cake? Ours certainly is!

French Fries

It’s so hard to just stop at one once we start digging into a bowl of French fries! For a healthier batch, use an air fryer since it will cut back on the oil that you need. Go ahead and use whatever dips you want like ketchup, spicy mayo, tzatziki, truffle mayo, and so much more.
