It can be hard to stay focused on healthy eating when at the airport. The smells of pretzels, sugar, and unhealthy carbs are everywhere. Then to top it off, when you do manage to try and eat better, a simple protein bar can cost you around $5 for just one! Crazy, right?
Lately, when we’ve been traveling, we’ve made sure to keep our carry-on bag stocked with treats that are tasty and that won’t have us wishing we made a different decision later on. See what you can stash in your bag that will fit security requirements and keep your appetite at bay without costing you a fortune.
Fruit
Surprisingly, a lot of people think that fruit isn’t allowed into an airport, but that’s not the case at all. Stick with whole fruits such as oranges, apples, grapes, peaches, plums, and bananas that are still in their peel. You will pass security checks with flying colors.
Granola Clusters
Tasty and filling, we suggest something with a bit of chocolate in it to keep any sweet tooth cravings satisfied.
Kind Dark Chocolate Whole Grain Clusters, $4.89
Beef Jerky
Delicious and filling, get a resealable pouch of beef jerky. It will fit right in the pocket in front of your seat and you can reach for it whenever you feel yourself needing something to munch on.
Golden Valley Organic Beef Jerky Teriyaki, $6.29
Cheese and Crackers
Super easy! In one zip lock bag throw in some crackers. In another, throw in some sliced cheese. Instant snack for the plane ride. Just make sure to choose a cheese that isn’t stinky. You’ll want to steer away from something like a blue cheese and opt for a cheddar or Jack cheese.
Trail Mix
You really can’t go wrong with a good trail mix of nuts and dried fruit. Be sure to select one that has some of your favorite items to eat, otherwise, your tummy will stray and you’ll be purchasing a bag of potato chips before you head on the plane.
Bite Fuel Trail Mix, $7.99
